What is your favorite part of creating beautiful makeup for brides and their bridal party?
I love the look on their faces once I've shown them how beautiful they can become. Often brides want natural or traditional makeup so I don't change them; I just enhance what they already have.
Where does your inspiration come from?
Inspiration is all around us. I find inspiration in passing crowds of people, magazines, music videos, movies, other established makeup artists and even nature. I had a beach bride once and we decided to use colors found in a tropical setting as her makup palette.
What do you think the most overlooked thing brides forget when considering their bridal makeup look?
Brides overlook their skin. Because they are under so much stress right before the wedding it wreaks havoc on their face. If we look at our skin as a clean canvas then we'd understand how much more beautiful the masterpiece (the face) will turn out. Brides have to remember to try and remain stress free.
If you were planning your "ultimate dinner party" who would you include on your guest list?
I'd plan a small and intimate dinner party of guests that could impart some wisdom regarding the industry. The guests would include: Pat McGrath (makeup artist and industry innovator), Danessa Myricks (makeup artist), Samantha and Nicola of FashionFacetv.com (Makeup artists and gurus), Anna Wintour (Editor-In-Chief of American Vogue), Cynthia Leive (Editor-In-Chief of Glamour Magazine-USA), Roberta Myers (Editor-In-Chief of Elle-USA), Patrick Demarchelier (noted photographer) and a few of my former makeup artistry students.
Same dinner party, same guests...what's on the iPod playlist as background music?
I have hundreds of songs on my iPod. A few of the selections would include:
Alacia Keys - Un-Thinkable
Phil Collins - In The Air Tonight
Rihanna - Rude boy, Rockstar
Mary J Blige - Good Love
Citizen Cope - Penitentiary
Juelz Santana - Back To The Crib
Teairra Mari - Sponsor
Erykah Badu - Window Seat
And finally, what's next on the horizon for you and your career?
I'm currently expanding my portfolio which will allow me more opportunities in editorial, runway, television and film.
Anything new you want to inform us about?
I currently teach makeup artistry courses. More information on upcoming classes is available on my website. I'm also looking for a few models for my portfolio. If anyone is interested please send a clear face shot to my email yulante@yourmakeupdiva.com.
Any summer specials you would like to announce?
I'm currently offering free pre wedding consultations. Any bride that books me for their wedding during the months of April, May, June and July will have the pre-wedding consultation service fee deducted from their wedding day makeup fee.
