If you're after some pizzazz, choose one basic color and an analagous shade, then go across the color wheel to add a complimentary accent. For example, if magenta is your basic color and red is the analogous shade, then accent those shades with lime green. The effect is vivid - think, for example, of how vibrant a purplish red rose looks surrounded by greenery. To ensure you don't end up with a color scheme that looks childish, stay away from contrasting primary and secondary colors (red and green, for example) and instead choose more subtle hues (magenta and lime).
