Wedding Cakes Follow Trends Too...

Here are some of the latest trends will will make your wedding cake pop off its stand at your reception. 1. Calligraphy Cakes - Scrollwork and delicate designs aren't just for stationery. The key to this type of cake is the color; this design works best with light hues and little contrast. You can also have your baker add memorable workds from your vows like "love" or "promise" in a similar scroll-like style. You might also consider using a line from your first dance song. 2. Shapely Designs - Round will also be a classic shape but if you cange the shape you can instantly transform your wedding style. An oval-shaped cake gives a trendy edge while a square cake adds modernity without looking unusual. Also try pairing a thicker top tier with a shorter middle tier. You could also shrink the height of the botton tier and elongate the middle one for a modern update to a round cake. A triangular cake is for the ultra-modern couple, calling for a clean frosted look and very few accents. 3. Gourmet Flavors - Take cake flavor cues from the season. A summer wedding might call for a light lemon cake; in fall, cinsider a spice cake with cinnamon apple filling; try a strawberry-filled white cake for spring. 4. Tons of Texture - One idea: have your cake baker to "crimp" the fondant around the bottom tier to get a look that's simple yet regal. Or ask the baker emboss the fondant on your cake to mimic a custom design or pattern, such as the lace from your dress or the design from your invitation. 5. Bold Flowers - Flowers will always be timeless but the most of-the-moment cakes are accented with one or two super-sized blooms. Think one or two large, sugar flowers. 6. Mini Cakes - One idea we love is to serve a mini cake to every guest. Before you order, remember that mini cakes are labor intensive, so expect to expand your budget if you do choose this route. Ask your caterer to serve cakes buffet-style to all the tables or have them stacked up to look like a tall three-tiered wedding cake. Some arrangements can include a small cake for the bride and groom and lots of mini-cakes to be served like slices during the ceremony. Photo source: Great Wedding Cake Blogspot & www.ivillage.com
